DamNation: Mucho bueno para tanto malo

Antes de comenzar a verla, lo primero que hay que considerar es que es una serie corta, muy breve. Una que contiene en su guión varias historias en un desarrollo coral que queda en el aire. Lamentable para tanta calidad y tan buen trabajo de producción.

Así entonces, estamos en 1931, en una nación maldita o condenada y comienza en el habitué de un hombre con uniforme de sacerdote católico en pleno campo abierto.

Ésta es una historia muy del Viejo Oeste, de 2 hermanos vaqueros en sus formas, sombreros a contra sol ardiente que muestra como sus dueños acumulan una explosiva bomba de emociones por el otro.

Tiempos modernos posteriores a la recesión estadounidense, en el paso transitorio evolutivo que contempla temas especialmente sensibles de esa época. Los principales; el ferrocarril, los juegos de azar, las prácticas de casinos, la prostitución, el voto femenino y la convivencia multicultural en comunidad.

Eso si, excelente banda sonora como punto sobresaliente. Otra cosa muy destacable son los inicios de cada capítulo, que están hechos con una artesanía notable, fuera de lo común en estos productos.

Está filmada y montada con harto filtro de color y saturación, por lo que si gozas con las AMOLED de Samsung, gozarás en este aspecto. Lo peor es el abrupto final. Hay series que son cortas por guión y otras que son cortas por decisiones externas, como motivos comerciales. Esta es de las segundas. En cambio las primeras aún pueden ser series redondas.

No tiene aspectos fáciles de criticar y evaluar negativamente excepto la cantidad de coincidencias en el guion. Entre esto y el final, la serie pierde todo atractivo, incluso para una crítica certera.

Común en estos guiones pobres son casualidades extraordinarias. Como por ejemplo, que a un pueblo X, llegan 2 hermanos en pugna, por distinto camino, con distinta vida e intereses y en 2 horas, ya tienen revolucionado el pueblo completo y uno que es un vaquero venido a menos, se mete con una puta inteligente a pesar de ser negra y termina siendo su fiato en la historia, pero resulta que la puta es la hija del alguacil. Consideraciones: 1) eso no se puede mantener en secreto en un pueblo pequeño, por lo tanto, malo el recurso sorpresa: “yo no sabía” y 2) como se ha comentado, es inentendible que sometan los guiones de series a estos vínculos inverosímiles que destruyen lo bueno anterior. En esa época, ese territorio estaba abundante de pueblos en proceso de construcción y los caminos no eran determinantes en la navegación de ellos. Por eso, es absurdo que se topen, así sin más, estos 2 hermanos opuestos.

Plataformas de streaming como Netflix deberían informar en la ficha si serie tuvo final o fue cortada, de cuajo, como ésta. Si no, es un engaño para un usuario básico que elige desde el catálogo propuesto (mayoría en Netflix, al menos).

Tomás es un genio de la pluma. Me tuvo cagao de la risa todo el rato de lectura. El libro es como una montaña rusa. Pasaron sus momentos hasta que llegué a la parte de la fire woman y me recargué de la risa de nuevo. Me emocionó muchísimo el capítulo de Fiji. Y el final, me hizo reír a carcajadas.

Leí la novela con calma y tranquilidad. Cabalga bien la novela con una prosa que avanza. Esta fue mi segunda lectura, la primera fue muy rápida, espaciada y distraída. Rescato el desenlace, me gustó bastante, bien logrado. Es un buen cierre para un libro entretenido. Me agradó el tono, cercano, esa narración en primera persona, para el lector actual, es clave. También la honestidad con la que el autor se involucra en la historia.
