Desde primera instancia, apela a ser una mezcolanza entre filmaciones como Armageddon, Black Mirror e Idiocracy, los tres elementos unidos en una juguera desde una perspectiva americanista. Y a esta mezcla tipo Hollywood, le meten el factor Trumph y la internalizada idea incrustada de pandemia. Además, le agrega un reparto coral de lujo y ya está, otro producto comercial de la factoría Netflix; el McDonalds del cine y la TV.
En lo personal, yo no me reí nada y creo que, de las 3 creaciones mencionadas como base, esta es la peor de las 4. En verdad, al contrario de lo que suponen algunos que caen en el juego, este producto está dedicado a telespectadores dormidos en la cultura mainstream y no es un crítico golpe a la cátedra como te la presenta la publicidad o el entorno. Este candy al paladar cinematográfico, es convencionalismo puro y es políticamente correcta.
Lo mejor de la película es conseguir hacerte creer que tú eres como esa dupla de científicos que desesperados, saben lo que acontece. Pero en realidad, el espectador idóneo y mayoritario para ellos, son esas personas que viven como testigos pasivos en una comodidad zombie.
Este es un producto para nuevas generaciones, que atrapa mentes infantiles, con ese tonito ultra millenial que ya nos aburre a muchos, demostrado en la nefasta obligación de someter al espectador a soportar 5 minutos en pantalla cantando algo horrible e insufrible como por ejemplo de Ariana Grande, una mujer estilo clon a Paloma Mami (o al verrés) u otras similares. Ese hecho, solo ese hecho, ya demuestra ese principio del trato ante la audiencia del tipo: “Idiotas”.
Eso sí, hay momentos superlativos a nivel de cinematografía; como el reconciliamiento sincero de un matrimonio, aunque muy cultura gringa, se ve honesto. O cuando Randy se manda la reflexión: “lo tuvimos todo”, tan potente.
Por otro lado, hay una mano en la dirección que se nota y le da cierto valor agregado como película, con detalles que aportan al conjunto. Estoy hablando del timbre en la voz del empresario, el jugo de Jason de algas y envase reciclable, el interesante misterio del robo del General o el vicio incontrolable de la Presidenta.
Todo esto no obstaculiza que, como película comercial, sea una comedia muy inteligente y bajo la polémica trama, el guion es similar al de cualquiera de las películas anteriores del director.
Lo que no entiendo es: ¿Por qué no ficharon a Will Ferrel si es el regalón de la casa por defecto?
Aunque el sentido sátira se logra, y es efectivo en una mediocridad latente, este es un visionado de mucha sobre actuación y exageraciones notorias, sin embargo, se extraña que con un elenco así, no logre ese nivel de ironía rupturista que le falta, que si tiene a consciencia Idiocracy, para mostrar lo que muestra con cierto humor clave para asimilar la tragedia que uno ve, algo así como el efecto Chaplin o Mr. Bean, ya que Don’t Look Up es poco sutil, como que les faltó ingenio en la producción y desarrollo.
Este aspecto esta abarcado desde la estupidez hilarante, pero sin profundidad. Es como si en una fiesta alguien cuenta un chiste que te deja perplejo al momento, pero que ya no recuerdas cuando llegas a casa. No, una cosa es una cosa y otra cosa es otra cosa. Yo todavía escucho el galope de cocos de Monty Pyton, veo la camioneta de hierba de Cheech and Chong humeando o el departamento futurista del protagonista en Brazil. Pero esas obras, eran de otra escuela, otros tiempos y eso se nota demasiado. Y decir demasiado, es poco. Es, sencillamente, otro nivel de cine.
También, como es habitual ahora último, es un producto de grandes pretensiones fílmicas, un ego latente en esas escenas tipo Discovery Channel o convengamos, copiadas a Terrence Malick, otro gigante del cine. Lo mismo la música, intentando todo el metraje parecer más culto de lo que eres.
Otra cosa que ya se vuelve molesto en la industria: cada vez, las películas dicen menos, son más primitivas, pero más largas y extendidas. Pasan del estándar de 90 min (antes solo los grandes directores y maestros hacían obras más complejas) a 250 min para cualquier tontera que se filme. Esto me recuerda un capítulo en LS; “el balón en la ingle”; más de 2 horas viendo el golpe de un balón al cuerpo y Homero dice jocoso: “Es que funciona en muchos niveles”. Si, ese es el nuevo cine, una basura que funciona en muchos niveles para unas audiencias tontas: un balón en la ingle cualquiera.
Vale comentar que a Chile lo mencionan una sola vez. Y bueno, sale Ron Perlman, un buen plus. Le pongo un 6 porque no es una mala película en si misma o sobre sí misma, solo es muchísimo menos de lo que aparenta y aspira ser o del impacto mediático que provocó.

En un lapso, creí que estaba en desvarío por desagradarme y encontrarla media terrorífica, pero lo cierto y es complejo de explicar, es que esta película es parte de su misma sátira y avala la idiotez que muestra porque es propia y esto es justo lo que da terror.
En resumen, es un película innecesariamente larga, ingenua, terrorífica y alarmante, en la que lo mejor, por lejos, es el final y una afirmación de cierre que da profundo miedo: si, somos estúpidos y nos extinguiremos.
*Y solo indicar: “…y entonces recemos”, que recurso final más patético y hegemónico, medieval.
