Comenzando en una premisa de aventuras, esta es una película 100% pura década de los ochentas. Repleta de elementos que hoy son comunes, da esa extraña la sensación de que ya la has visto, aunque eso no sea cierto y al final te sorprenda gratamente.

A base de una estética y una frecuencia glam rock de la época, además cuenta con una musicalización completa que mezclada de muy buena manera con el sonido propio de lo que es filmar una película. Hay artesanía en este punto y mucha inocencia pop notoria y expuesta en el conjunto, incluido el sex mode que imperaba y estaba de moda por esos años.

A nivel visual, es abundante de negros concentrados y expone una admirable colección de autos para el recuerdo.
El visionado asegura bastante sociología de grupos, de género, de poder y de jerarquía, no es un guión improvisado ni sin fundamento. Al contrario, está elaborado a consciencia y en contexto, eso se agradece siempre, aunque la película no haya envejecido de la mejor forma.

Así, a punta de acciones vudú y selva, esta es una historia tribalezca de pantanos, animales y manglares. Pero también de mafiosos y artes marciales, de barrios y calles (detalle en spoiler).

Gran rol de Laurence Fishburne como Cream, en créditos finales presentado como Larry. En la actualidad lo vemos como un cameo, en esos tiempos, era de esos papeles pequeños de un tipo que en el futuro se transformó en un actor reconocido.

*Enigma épico de aquel cacique Joe, el salvaje que tenía grandes planes para los muchachos presos.
*Grandiosa explosión casera con harto fuego, buen material de garaje.

Tomás es un genio de la pluma. Me tuvo cagao de la risa todo el rato de lectura. El libro es como una montaña rusa. Pasaron sus momentos hasta que llegué a la parte de la fire woman y me recargué de la risa de nuevo. Me emocionó muchísimo el capítulo de Fiji. Y el final, me hizo reír a carcajadas.

Leí la novela con calma y tranquilidad. Cabalga bien la novela con una prosa que avanza. Esta fue mi segunda lectura, la primera fue muy rápida, espaciada y distraída. Rescato el desenlace, me gustó bastante, bien logrado. Es un buen cierre para un libro entretenido. Me agradó el tono, cercano, esa narración en primera persona, para el lector actual, es clave. También la honestidad con la que el autor se involucra en la historia.
